First Nations Victory at Grassy Narrows (Canada)

Rainforest Action Network (RAN) praised the decision by logging company AbitibiBowater-the largest paper company in the world-to stop logging on the traditional territory of Grassy Narrows First Nation. The move follows decades of lawsuits and peaceful protest by the First Nation.

No-one should underestimate the importance of this tremendous victory for Grassy Narrows First Nation. It shows that campaigns to stop the pulp and paper industry's most destructive and unethical practices can succeed, even if they may take years to achieve justice. When it comes to people vs pulp, today we know that people can win.
